Setting Up FileZilla Server for FTP: A Step-by-Step Guide

When it comes to managing files on your Google Cloud website, you need a reliable and secure way to do so. This is where FileZilla comes in – an FTP client that allows you to manage your files from the comfort of your desktop. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the process of setting up FileZilla server for FTP, using a private/public key pair generated with PuTTY Key Generator.

The first step is to download both PuTTY and FileZilla. PuTTY is an SSH client and key generator that we will use to generate a private/public key pair. Once downloaded, open PuTTY Key Generator and click the 'Generate' button to create a new pair of SSH Keys. This process may take a few minutes, so be patient.

Once the key pair has been generated, you will need to copy the public key text from the top box and download the private key file by clicking the 'Save private key' button. You should also save these files in a secure location for future reference.

Next, open FileZilla and navigate to Edit > Settings. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, click the 'Add item' button, and paste the Public Key text that you copied earlier into the box. This will establish a secure connection between your Google Cloud Platform instance and FileZilla.

To complete the setup process, open the settings menu in FileZilla by clicking on the hamburger menu in the upper left-hand corner of the application. Navigate to Connection > FTP > SFTP, and click on the 'Upload Private Key' button. Select the private key file that you downloaded earlier and upload it to FileZilla.

Finally, copy the public key text from the top box in the Google Cloud Platform dashboard and save the keys for future reference. With these steps complete, you should now be able to use FileZilla to securely manage your Google Cloud website's files straight from your desktop.
